A Few Days Away…

I hit the pause button over my birthday time. As always hoped for and somewhat intended, three days unfurled one quiet moment at a time.

Some moments spent in quiet contemplation. Many moments spent in meditation. HER wave-induced stillness and sanctuary rolled me through yet another threshing floor, during which life stilled to one simple, beautiful melody.

I sat, I read, I walked, I listened. I paused the writing, the mentoring, all. the. doings. of the world, to just be.

The value of time out is often touted among creatives of all types. Our most brilliant insights come from the time we take offline from our day to day and online with what we need most in those precious moments of spiraling in.

Truth be told, I do this every day. One way or another, the pause button is part of me. Sometimes it starts my day. Mostly, the days build themselves, one moment upon another…Meditation, yoga, tai chi, walking…ever listening. The Trinity of practice that has shaped my way: meditation, movement and mindfulness.

I can barely remember that other me. The one whose practices saw her through everything else that battled to control her time and her days. The one whose practices became that control, and so, eventually, had to morph away.
