Brava! This is spot on. And, you are right, it is the unacknowledged wounding that cannot face itself that perpetuates the cycles of what you call destruction. When a volcano erupts, humans tend to curse the 'destruction' instead of revering the creation of new land and life. The metaphor works, if you sit with it. ;)
