Recalibrated Reality

Funny, they don’t say that about women. It is implied, of course. Is it easier for women to know they are the river? I’ve no idea. I can only tell my story.

No matter how many job applications I filled out, how many job sites I posted on, or how many interviews I aced, I could not get a gig. My bones knew my 27 years working in IT were ending before I could let my mind wrap around that truth. And, I was the sole support for myself, my partner, and my beloved furry companion.

My last job had been full time, and my unemployment benefits were running out. My instincts told me to get another contract and right quick. But it felt wrong. I kept trying.

With decades of spiritual practice under my belt, and a few awakenings besides, I knew something was off. Something about my trajectory needed an adjustment. But, what? I had been offering 1–1 mentoring on a part-time basis for a few years. Could that pay the bills? Wasn’t it wrong to charge for spiritual assistance?
