Sunlight! When I was a teenager, the thing to do was 'lie out' in the sun, trying to acquire as dark a patina as possible. Asian friends asked, kindly enough, "Why do you want to change color?'" It took years but the point came home eventually. "Getting a tan" was cool, being a POC was not... Why do we do this to ourselves and others?
