Time With Five Year Olds
and the greatness of their giggles…
Who can resist an angel with an ice lolly? New sunhat and all?
Darting, dashing, racing into the waves…and yet these perfectly blended moments of inner stillness and outwardly expressed joy.
Giggles in a wiggle container.
The music of innocent laughter.
The weariness of incessant demands fueled by insatiable curiosity.
The honesty of “I hear you but I’m not listening.”
Real child example:
“Daddy, I’m hungry!” This was not the first such exclamation, nor the second. Mum had conveniently ‘left the building,’ to pop into the market.
“We know, but you didn’t eat at lunch and now you’ll have to wait for dinner. ” {yes, there were packed snacks, which were hardly the point…}
“Hey! Look at the lights on those trees over there!” ~ from the angel in question.
“Dad” and I looked sideways at one another and cracked up. Silently, of course, so as not to disturb the headphoned angel, whose inner fingers were in his ears whilst he chanted “Lalalalalalalala.”
Oh, to get away with that! We all remember.
Some of us more astutely than others.
